Wildcats knock off Bobcats for 2-0 Big Sky start

Dillon Jones tied his career-high with 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season.
OGDEN - Weber State continued its hot play with another dominating performance as the Wildcats knocked off Montana State 86-64 Saturday afternoon at the Dee Events Center.Â
The Wildcats picked up a home sweep of Montana and Montana State this week to start 2-0 in Big Sky play and won their fourth-straight game overall.Â
All five starters scored in double figures, led by junior standout Dillon Jones.Â
Playing in his 100th career game at Weber State, Jones tied his career-high with 29 point. He was 7 of 12 from the field and 13 of 14 from the free throw line. He also grabbed 13 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season. He also dished out six assists and had four steals. He also moved into third place on the career rebounding list.Â
Weber State shot 57 percent from the field for the second-straight game and knocked down six 3-pointers. The 'Cats pulled down 42 rebounds, the most against a Division I opponent this season, and won the rebounding battle 42-26.Â
MSU led 15-13 with 12:50 to play when Weber State went on a 22-4 run over the next seven minutes and led 35-19. The Bobcats closed the half on a 9-4 run and Weber State led 43-34 at halftime.Â
The WSU lead was never less than eight points in the second half and the 'Cats led by as many as 24 points.Â
Steven Verplancken added 14 points with two 3-pointers, and dished out four assists.Â
Dyson Koehler had 12 points and was a perfect 4 of 4 from the field with two 3-pointers. In the two wins this week, Koehler was 8 of 8 from the field and 5 of 5 from 3-point range. He also had a career-high eight rebounds.Â
Alex Tew also added 12 points on 6 of 8 shooting and Blaise Threatt had 11 points with six rebounds and two assists.Â
Weber State is 9-4 overall and will now step out of conference play for two games in the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge next week. WSU will host South Dakota State on Wednesday, January 3, then play at Oral Roberts on Saturday, January 6.Â
