More preseason honors for Weber State football as the Wildcats are once again nationally ranked to start a season.Â
Weber State is ranked 13th in the nation in the 2023 Stats Perform FCS Preseason poll, presented by FedEx Ground, which was unveiled on Monday.Â
It marks the seventh-straight season that Weber State has been nationally ranked in a preseason poll.Â
WSU is one of six teams from the Big Sky in the preseason poll, the most of any conference in the country, and all six are in the top 16 in the poll.Â
Montana State is ranked third, followed by Idaho at No. 8 and Sacramento State at No. 10. Montana is ranked 14th with UC Davis ranked 16th.Â
Defending national champion South Dakota State is No. 1 with North Dakota State ranked second.Â
The Wildcats are coming off a 10-win season last year and advanced to the second round of the FCS Playoffs. It was the eighth-straight winning season for the Wildcats. WSU was picked to finish fourth in the Big Sky preseason coaches poll.Â
WSU returns four players that earned All-America honors last season and eight players that earned All-Big Sky honors.Â
Winston Reid was named the Big Sky Preseason Defensive MVP and Maxwell Anderson, Noah Atagi, and Abraham Williams all received preseason All-Big Sky honors.Â
The 2023 season begins on Thursday, August 31 when Weber State hosts Central Washington at Stewart Stadium. WSU will then play at Northern Iowa and Utah before beginning the Big Sky schedule with a home game on September 23 against Montana State.Â
Weber State also hosts Northern Arizona, UC Davis, and Idaho at home this season and will play at Northern Colorado, Eastern Washington, Idaho State, and Cal Poly.Â
Stewart Stadium is getting an upgrade for the 2023 season. The east stands of the stadium are being completely rebuilt to enhance the fan gameday experience. In addition, a new field and new track will be installed prior to the season.Â
The east stands will not be open for the season opener on August 31 but will be ready for the September 23 game.Â
