9/3/2023 12:06:00 AM | Men's Golf

LOGAN, Utah – The Wildcats dropped three of four matches in both sessions of play on Saturday to Utah State at the Logan Country Club, putting themselves in an uphill climb in the WSU-USU Cup, a Ryder Cup-style match play event between the two schools.

Utah State came out strong on Saturday morning, taking a 3-1 advantage after the alternate shot session, and matched that score in the afternoon best-ball session to grab a 6-2 lead heading into Sunday's singles play.

The Wildcats will need to take at least six and a half of the eight points available on Sunday in order to tie the match and retain the Cup, which they have won outright in each of the first two years of the competition. Weber State took the inaugural event 12.5-3.5 in Logan in 2021, and took last season's matchup 11.5-4.5 at the Ogden Golf & Country Club.

Sunday's singles action will begin at 9:30 a.m.
