Williams opened the season with another 100-yard kickoff return touchdown, the fifth of his career, in Weber State's win.
After adding to his record-setting performance from last season in the first game of this season, Weber State All-American kickoff returner Abraham Williams has been named the Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week.Â
Williams earned the honor after returning a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown in Weber State's season-opening win over Central Washington.Â
In the second quarter, with the game tied 7-7, Williams returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown that gave the Wildcats the lead.Â
It was his fifth career kickoff return touchdown and all five returns have been 100 yards.Â
Last season Williams was a consensus All-American after returning four kickoffs for 100 yards. He led the country in kickoff returns in 2022 at 37.4 yards per return. He was the only player in all divisions of the NCAA to have more than two kickoff returns last season.Â
The junior from Salt Lake City is first in WSU history in career kickoff return average at 39.0 per return and is seventh in career return yards. He is second in WSU history with five touchdowns, behind former Wildcat great Rashid Shaheed, now with the New Orleans Saints, who is tied for first with the FCS record of seven return touchdowns.Â
This is his third Big Sky Player of the Week honor after earning the award twice last season.Â
Weber State hits the road this week for a nationally-ranked showdown at Northern Iowa on Saturday.Â
