PORTLAND, Ore. - Weber State made a huge rally from a 24-point deficit but it wasn't quite enough as Portland State knocked off the Wildcats 69-66 Saturday afternoon at Viking Pavilion in Portland.Â
Portland State closed the first half on a 22+6 run over the final 8:29 and led 42-26 at halftime.Â
The Vikings extended the lead to 24 points at 50-26 with 18:11 to play before Weber State started a big rally. WSU had a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 15 points, then later a 13-0 run to cut the lead to 59-50 with 9:40 to play.Â
PSU led by 12 points at 67-55 with 5:45 to play before an 11-0 Wildcat run cut the lead to one point at 67-66 with 24 seconds to play. The Vikings made two free throws and WSU's final 3-point attempt was missed.Â
Portland State shot 45 percent from the field and held Weber State to 38 percent shooting, the second-lowest percentage of the season for the Wildcats.Â
Dyson Koehler led the Wildcat with a career-high 21 points. He was 6 of 9 from the field, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range, and was 6 of 6 from the free throw line.
Dillon Jones had 20 points with seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals and played all 40 minutes of the game. Â
Alex Tew returned from missing Thursday's game with an illness and had 12 points on 5 of 8 shooting and had two blocked shots. Â
The game was played in front of a crowd of just 161 with only friends and family as Portland was hit with a major snowstorm.Â
The Wildcats are now 11-6 overall and 2-2 in Big Sky play.Â
Weber State returns home for two home games this week hosting Eastern Washington on Thursday and Idaho on Saturday.Â
Saturday's game will be the 25th Anniversary celebration of the 1999 men's basketball team that won the Big Sky Tournament and defeated North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament. Harold "The Show" Arceneaux and Eddie "The Thrill" Gill will both be in attendance and will speak at halftime.Â
