Wildcats fall to Bengals in five sets

POCATELLO, Idaho - The Weber State volleyball team fell 3-2 to Idaho State, the number one blocking team in the nation on Friday evening at Reed Gym.
SET 1 | The Wildcats and Bengals went neck and neck to start the first set. A Weber State 4-0 run boosted the lead for the Wildcats. A five-point run later in the set gave WSU a lead that the Bengals could not recover from and Weber State earned the win 25-17.
SET 2 | The Idaho State squad came out fighting in the second taking a quick 5-1 lead over the Wildcats. However, two Bengal errors and a Rose Moore kill put the 'Cats to trail by one. That was until six straight points by the Bengals advanced their lead 14-7. A service error by ISU then snapped that, and Weber State pulled back to trail Idaho State by three. WSU was not able to recover from the deficit and the Bengals ultimately took the set 25-20.
SET 3 | Much like the second set, ISU pulled out with a quick lead, 13-6. The Bengals then proved to be too much for the Wildcats as they secured the third set 25-16.
SET 4 | Weber State took their first lead of the set 5-4 after a block by Rose Moore. A four-point run then made by the Bengals gave them the space needed to pull away from Weber State 15-12. The 'Cats rallied and formed a 6-0 scoring run to take back the lead 20-17. Another 4-0 run gave the comeback 'Cats a 25-21 victory and pushed the match to a fifth set.
SET 5 | It was all Weber State to start the fifth set, until the Idaho State squad tied and then led the set 9-8 forcing WSU to a timeout. From there three straight points were made by the Bengals. The Wildcats collected two more points off a ISU error and Baylee Bodily kill but it was not enough and the Idaho State squad won 15-11 and earned a 3-2 match win.
Ashley Gneiting recorded a new single game career high 20 kills on the night. The Wildcats performed best in the first set, hitting .235 with 14 kills.
