CHENEY, Wash. - Wildcat volleyball fell 3-1 to the Eastern Washington Eagles this afternoon. The loss drops the 'Cats 4-3 in Big Sky play.
SET 1 | Starting the match, Eastern Washington created some separation from Weber State early on, but not before a tough WSU squad tied the set 10-10. The two teams continued to exchange points until a seven-point run by the Wildcats gave them a 19-15 advantage over the Eagles. Keeping that lead for the Wildcats, a Jayda Tupea kill and solo block kept the 'Cats ahead by four. Eastern Washington did not back down and battled to tie the set 22-22 following a Wildcat error. It was set point for the Eagles after a kill by Quincy Moran until a kill by Liana Woodley tied it up again 24-24. Following that, the Weber State volleyball team found momentum collecting two points off a Rose Moore service ace and Eastern Washington error to earn them the set 26-24.Â
SET 2 | Eastern Washington again opened the set on an immediate run, building a 12-6 lead. Weber State erased the six-point advantage and trailed the Eagles by three. Using a three-point stretch, the Wildcats looked to gain the advantage with the score 24-23 in favor of the Eagles however, following an EWU timeout, the Eagles found the point and secured the set 25-23.Â
SET 3 | The two sides exchanged points to begin the third set as neither built a multi-point lead in the early stages until Eastern Washington slowly made distance following a couple of runs. The Wildcats rallied late stringing together a few points before an Eagle service ace secured the set 25-16.Â
SET 4 | Eastern Washington threatened to close out the match with a 14-9 lead. Despite being down by five, the Wildcats countered with two four-point runs taking the advantage from the Eagles 17-15. Eastern Washington answered with a 4-0 run and built upon that to ultimately win the set 25-22 and a match victory.Â
Woodley had 11 kills for a .524 hitting percentage. Moore led the Wildcats with 13 kills and a .250 hitting percentage she also totaled four service aces.Â
