WSU Men's Tennis attends the ITA Regionals

Kruger and Dinh receive an automatic bid to the NCAA doubles event.
LAS VEGAS - Weber State men's tennis attended the 2024 ITA Mountain Region Men's Tennis Championships on the campus of UNLV at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Representatives from 16 schools in the region are on hand for the event which ran October 17-22.
Starting with a 64 player qualifying draw, Liam Day beat Geremia Rossi from Utah 7-5, 6-0 in the first round and Chris Zheng from Montana 6-1, 6-4 to qualify for the main draw. Jordan Coutinho had a bye in the first round but then defeated Lance Urlaub from New Mexico State 7-6, 6-2 to also qualify for the main draw.
In the main draw, Day took down Eivind Tandberg from Montana 6-1, 6-4 before falling to the 16th seed Ryoma Mishiro from Denver.
Tristan Sarap had a good run beating Hardy Owen from BYU 6-2, 7-6 in the first round and taking out the number three seed Sergi Mico Fenollar from Utah State 6-3, 6-4. Sarap came up short against Raffaelo Papajcik the number 10 seed from Denver 6-4, 6-2 in the round of 16.
The duo of Sarap and William Zulch defeated Kersten/Tingleaf from Air Force in the first round before falling 9-7 in the tiebreaker to the number 10 seeds from UN Reno. Coutinho and Day took down Campos/Stipetic 8-1 before losing to the number nine seeds Moore/Deaton from Air Force.
Kruger and Ken Dinh had an performed amazing, beating Martirosian/Alkotop from Utah State 5-8 and then taking out the number seven seeds Owen/Chodur from BYU 8-6. The duo then defeated number 15 seeds Potter/Relic from Utah 8-7 and advanced to play for a spot in the semi finals on Sunday. The Wildcat pair dominated their opponents in the semi finals 6-3, 7-5 and advanced to the finals of the tournament where they took down the number one team from Idaho State 6-3, 6-4 and received an automatic bid to the NCAA doubles event.
The last time a team won the regional tournament was in 1989. This will be only the second team in WSU history to play at the NCAA doubles event.
