'Cats roll to exhibition win over Adams State

OGDEN - Weber State men's basketball rolled to an 83-63 win over Adams State in an exhibition game Monday night at the Dee Events Center before the start of the 2024-25 season.

Four of WSU's five starters scored in double figures and the Wildcats shot 53 percent from the field.

The 'Cats never trailed and had a 21-5 run to lead 32-13 with 9:00 left in the first half. Weber State led 42-31 at halftime and shot 61 percent from the field in the first half.

Adams State cut the lead to nine points with 13:17 remaining but the Wildcats responded with a 22-8 run over the next eight minutes to take their largest lead of 25 points.

WSU shot 53 percent and held the Grizzlies to 35 percent shooting. The 'Cats knocked down nine 3-pointers, outrebounded Adams State 44-29 and dished out 18 assists.

"I thought we competed well and were able to get some young players some good minutes in front of the home crowd," said WSU head coach Eric Duft. "It will take us a little time to get some rhythm playing with each other but I like the progress we are making."

Wildcat senior Blaise Threatt led the way with 15 points on 7 of 8 shooting and had nine assists, eight rebounds, and three steals.

Viljami Vartiainen also had 15 points with three 3-pointers. New Wildcat transfers Nigel Burris and Miguel Tomley each added 14 points and Tomley made a game-high four 3-pointers.

Weber State will open the 2024-25 season next Monday, November 4 with a home game against Northwest Indian College.
