Weber State defeats Montana, improves 3-0 in Big Sky play

OGDEN - Weber State volleyball improved to 3-0 in Big Sky play after a five-set battle to the Montana Griz.
SET 1 | The lady Griz got an early jump on the Wildcats after a 4-0 run awarded Montana the 7-4 advantage. Kills from Rose Moore and Liana Woodley helped chip away at the Montana lead until another run by the lady Griz put the squad up 19-12. Montana ultimately closed out the set 25-16.
SET 2 | Weber State found momentum quickly in the second set, cruising to a 13-8 lead. Montana chipped at that lead and trailed the Wildcats by three. Holding tightly to that advantage, the Wildcat squad rallied to a 25-20 win.
SET 3 | It was a back and forth battle in the third to earn the advantage in the match. WSU led by one until a Montana run took the lead by three. Recovering after a Saane Munyer kill and Griz error, WSU was down by one. The set was then tied 21-21 until two Griz kills and a service ace earned them the victory 25-21.
SET 4 | The fourth set saw much of the same as the third. Both squads were exchanging leads until WSU began to pull away at 10-6. Weber State took their biggest lead of the set at 18-9 but a tough Montana squad rallied to trail WSU by one at 21-20. With the match on the line, the Wildcats pulled together a string of points for a 25-23 set three win.
SET 5 | The lady Griz maintained a slim lead in the fifth set with the Wildcats not far behind. Down by five, the WSU squad pulled out two kills by Kate Payne and Victoria Marthaler plus a block by Moore and Munyer to make a dent in the lady Griz lead. The set was then tied 12-12 and the match was on the line. The Weber State offense found a Payne service ace and Baylee Bodily kill to lead the team to a 15-13 set win and 3-2 match victory.

The Wildcat volleyball squad is back in Ogden on Saturday, October 5 for a match against Montana State. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
