Strong Second Round Carries WSU to Lead at Cullum Invitational

SOMIS, Calif. – After opening the day with a 15-over par 303, the Weber State men's golf team came back with an impressive 2-over par 290 in the second round to surge to the team lead on Monday at the Bill Cullum Invitational at Saticoy Country Club.
The Wildcats' 290 was the best score of the day among the entire field by 10 shots and moved the team from a second-place tie, two shots off the lead, into the top spot on the leaderboard by nine strokes with a 36 hole total of 593.
UC Riverside, who held the 18-hole lead, is in second place at 602, followed by tournament-host CSU Northridge at 603. Pepperdine's Byungho Lee shot rounds of 72 and 70 for the individual medalist lead at 2-under par 142. Lee leads his teammate, Joshua Koo by a single shot.
Weber State's Matthew Wilson is tied for third place on the individual leaderboard after shooting consecutive rounds of even-par 72 for a total of 144 on the day.
Ty Anderson joined Wilson in the top-10 through 36 holes with a 2-over par total of 146 to finish the day in a tie for sixth place. Anderson opened his day with a 77, but bounced back in the afternoon with a 3-under par 69.
Luke Smith shot 77-74 and is in 15th place overall at 151, while Bobby Kincaid shot 77-81 for a total of 158 to sit in a tie for 25th. Cormack Goecke was another shot back in 27th place after rounds of 84 and 75 on the day.
The six-team field will be back to the course at Saticoy Country Club tomorrow morning for the final round, beginning at 9:30 a.m. MT.
