'Cats Jump to 10th Place Finish with Final Round Rally at UCSD Invite

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Weber State men's golf team recorded the best round of the field over the final 18 holes at the UC San Diego Invitaitonal on Tuesday to jump four spots on the leaderboard for a 10th place finish in the 17 team field.
After opening the tournament with rounds of 299 and 295 over the first two days, the Wildcats blistered the Torrey Pines Golf Club - North Course for 23 birdies as a team en route to a 10-under par 278 for a 54-hole total of 872.
Matthew Wilson led the final day charge, carding six birdies against a single bogey for a 5-under par 67. Wilson opened the tournament with rounds of 72 and 71, giving him a 6-under par total of 210 for a tie for fifth place overall. He recorded 13 birdies over his three rounds.
Ty Anderson shot rounds of 72, 75 and 74 while recording 12 birdies for the event, finishing in a tie for 51st place at 5-over par 221.
Markus Nanpei opened his tournament with rounds of 75 and 78 before closing with a 2-under par 70 to tie for 69th place at 7-over par 223.
Bobby Kincaid tied for 69th place at 8-over par 224. After opening the tournament with a score of 80, he played the final 36 holes in even par, shooting rounds of 73 and 71 on Monday and Tuesday.
Jesus Castaneda rounded out the team in a tie for 75th place. He shot rounds of 80 and 76 ahead of a final round 2-under par 70 for a 10-over par total of 226.
Loyola Marymount took the team title, shooting 18-under par to finish seven shots ahead of second place UC Santa Barbara. The Lions were led to the win by individual medalist Nateeshvar Anatha Ganesh, who shot rounds of 66, 65 and 72 for a 13-under par 203.
