OGDEN, Utah – Weber State men's golf head coach Scott Erling announced the signing of Washington high schooler Ryan Takeshita as the recent signing period opened.
"Ryan is an outstanding player with a strong tournament resume who we expect to step in and compete from day one," said Erling. "We are very excited to see what he is going to accomplish as a Wildcat."
Takeshita, from Auburn, Washington, will join the Wildcats for the 2024-25 season. He has played his high school golf with Sumner High School, where he has been a three-year letterwinner in golf. He has helped Sumner to the Washington State 4A team championship in each of the last two seasons. In 2023, he earned state championship individual medalist honors, shooting rounds of 67 and 70 for a 7-under par 137. In 2024, he finished in a tie for fifth place with rounds of 73 and 70 for a 1-over par 143. He earned First Team All-League in 2023 and 2024 and was the 2024 4A High School Co-MVP.
He was the 2023 WJGA 14-15 year-old State Champion, and shot a 3-under par total to finish tied for 18th at the 2023 Junior America's Cup. He posted a competitive round low score with a 66 in the WJGA Joel Dahmen Invitational at the Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course in Sequim, Wash.
