Sanders was the head coach at Weber State for the last five seasons.
OGDEN - Weber State women's soccer head coach Craig Sanders has announced his retirement from coaching. Sanders spent the last six years as a coach in the Wildcat program, with the last five seasons as the head coach.Â
"It has been an honor and a privilege to have coached the Weber State women's soccer program over these past six seasons," Sanders said. "To have worked with so many talented and great character people has been the most rewarding part of coaching and being a member of the Wildcat staff. The program is very well positioned to enjoy unprecedented successes in the coming years. Although retiring, I will be cheering and celebrating the team's inevitable achievements. Go Wildcats!"
He was an assistant coach in the 2019 season, then took over as head coach. His first season was the spring 2021 season.Â
In his five seasons as head coach of the Wildcats, Sanders twice guided Weber State to the Big Sky Tournament, including the championship match in 2021 and the semifinals in 2022.Â
He also coached 20 players who earned All-Big Sky honors, including two conference MVP's and a Golden Boot Award winner. Â
"I will forever be grateful to Coach Sanders for his dedication and the remarkable impact he has had on our women's soccer program and our athletics department as a whole," said Weber State Director of Athletics Tim Crompton. "His leadership not only developed incredible athletes but also fostered exceptional individuals. We wish him the best in his retirement and know he will always be a Wildcat. Thank you, Coach Sanders, for everything!"
A native of Durban, South Africa, Sanders had a distinguished career in soccer and multiple business professions.Â
He played nine years of professional soccer in South Africa and was part of numerous championship teams and earned selections to All-star teams.
He also coached soccer at all levels. He was an early catalyst in the development of the Wildcat soccer program when he coached the Weber State men's soccer club team to three national titles in his four years as head coach.Â
He also worked in management positions with America First Credit Union and the Utah Jazz. He has a Master of Science Marketing degree and spent 10 years as a Vice President of Marketing with the Jazz.
