Wildcats finish out season in five set loss to Hornets

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Weber State volleyball team finished out the regular season with a five set loss to the Sacramento Hornets this Saturday night. The Wildcats will finish 10-6 in the Big Sky Conference.Â
SET 1 | It was all Weber State to start the match securing the first set 25-21. Putting together a couple of runs the Wildcats were able to put space between them and the Hornets. Battling, Sacramento State pulled to trail the 'Cats by three but not before a Kate Payne kill and Hornet error awarded the Wildcats the first set.Â
SET 2 | Weber State pulled to a five-point lead at 14-9 in the second set until the Hornets strung together five points, taking the lead 17-16 and forcing Weber State to a timeout. It was back and forth from then on but a 5-0 run for the Hornets secured them the 25-22 victory and tied the match 1-1.Â
SET 3 | Sacramento State created some separation in the third set following a five-point run. The Wildcats were unable to recover from that lead and the Hornets took the set 25-22 and the advantage in the match 2-1.
SET 4 | A tough Wildcat offense battled to take a 25-23 win in the third set and push the match to a fifth. It was neck and neck throughout the set with Weber State maintaining a slim lead over the Hornets. Creating some space at 24-21 the Wildcats sealed the set off of a Sacramento State service error.
SET 5 | The Hornets got the best of the Wildcats in the fifth set. Weber State held with Sacramento State to begin the set until two Hornet kills put the team up 11-8. Both teams continued to exchange a few points from there, until Sacramento State ultimately took the set after two Wildcat errors at 15-10 and the match 3-2.Â
