SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Weber State volleyball took on the Eastern Washington Eagles in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Tournament this Wednesday afternoon defeating the red and black 3-1 and advancing to the semifinal match.Â
SET 1 | A battle from the beginning, the Wildcats and Eagles exchanged points back and forth until two kills by Ashley Gneiting and one by Rose Moore started to separate the two squads 13-9. The Eagles snapped a 3-0 Wildcat run following a timeout however, the Weber State offense stood strong pulling ahead 18-13. Wildcat head coach Jeremiah Larsen called a timeout following a three-point Eastern Washington run allowing his team to recompose. Then one point away from a first set win, an Eagle service error awarded the Wildcats a 25-22 set victory.
SET 2 | Using a 4-0 run early, Weber State pulled ahead of the Eagles 9-6 but Eastern Washington chipped away at the deficit to tie the set 11-11. Back and forth kills between the two teams kept the score close until an Eagle kill and Wildcat error put Eastern Washington up 18-16. The Wildcats returned to the court following a Weber State timeout but were unable to surpass the Eagles lead despite working to trail by one at 24-23 and Eastern Washington evened up the match 25-23.
SET 3 | The Wildcats regained their momentum in the third set with a 9-2 early advantage and the Eagles were pushed to a timeout at 14-7. Weber State continued to dominate and sealed the set 25-14.
