Wildcats drop final preseason game to Wolverines

OGDEN - The Weber State women's basketball team returned to the Dee Events Center this Friday evening after a six road game stretch spanning 38 days. The Wildcats dropped their final preseason game against the Wolverines 55-57.
First Half | It was a tightly contested first quarter between the Wildcats and Wolverines. Until a 9-0 Wildcat run helped to boost the 'Cats 13-5 and end the quarter in favor of the purple and white. Kendra Parra led the 'Cats throughout the first quarter with five points.
Utah Valley came out strong in the second quarter with an early seven-point run. The Wolverines battled to trail the Wildcats by two at 18-16 until a Rose Bubakar three-pointer put the 'Cats up by five to help close the quarter, 21-18.
Second Half | A 12-0 run started the third quarter for the Wolverines as they took the lead at 30-25. A Bubakar three-pointer put that run to an end and the Wildcats fought to take back the lead. Unable to do so, the Wolverines ended the quarter 39-33.
The Weber State squad rattled off three three-pointers early in the fourth quarter to chip at the deficit and trail Utah Valley by two. A tough Wildcat team stayed close to the Wolverines throughout the quarter but it was not enough as Utah Valley secured the victory 55-57.

- Wildcats Antoniette Emma-Nnopu and Bubakar were in double figures with 13 points each.
- Bubakar recored a new season and career high three three-pointers against the Wolverines.
- Emma-Nnopu totaled 16 rebounds. A new season and career high.
- The Wildcats finished the game with 28 turnovers. Allowing Utah Valley 25 points.
- The Wildcats face the Northern Colorado Bears on January 2 to open Big Sky Conference play.
- Weber State will then play Northern Arizona and Idaho State at home before traveling to Missoula for a matchup against the Griz.
