Wildcats open Big Sky play with 65-52 win over Bears

1/2/2025 8:52:00 PM | Women's Basketball

OGDEN - The Weber State women's basketball team defeated the Northern Colorado Bears this Thursday evening in their Big Sky Conference opener by a score of 65-52.

First Half | The Wildcats quickly gained a lead in the first quarter against the Bears, 12-4 and with just over three minutes of gameplay the Wildcat offense held a 19-8 point lead going into the second quarter.

Using an 8-0 run to start the second quarter, the Wildcats were up by 19. The Bears then battled back with a ten-point run of their own to end the quarter 18-27.

Second Half | Northern Colorado came into the third quarter with lots of pressure on the Wildcats forcing turnovers. However, Lanae Billy turned up the heat with three three-pointers to help the Wildcats to a 47-38 lead headed into the last ten minutes of game play.

Entering the fourth quarter, it was vital for the Wildcats to maintain their lead. Northern Colorado pulled to trail Weber State by seven until Billy and Kendra Parra put up two back-to-back three-pointers. Two good free throws by Rose Bubakar and one by Parra helped to extend that run for the Wildcats. Proving to be too much for the Bears, Weber State created game-defining separation and pulled away for the 65-52 win.

From Head Coach Jenteal Jackson
"It's a huge start. 1-0 is definitely how you want it and I'm proud of us for defending our home court."
