Wildcats win fourth straight 58-53 over Sacramento State

OGDEN - Weber State never trailed and won its fourth-straight game with a 58-53 over Sacramento State Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.Â
With the win the Wildcats improved to 16-9 overall and 7-5 in Big Sky play, currently tied for third in the league standings.
The Wildcats shot 48 percent from the field, compared to 45 percent for the Hornets. WSU made just four 3-pointers and Sacramento State outrebounded the Wildcats 30-17, but Weber State forced 21 turnovers and had 12 steals.
Weber State led by as many 10 in the first half and held a 30-22 lead in the second half. WSU led by 11 with 4:59 to play before an 8-1 Sacramento State run cut the lead to three points with 1:22 to play.
WSU led by two points with nine seconds left before a fast-break Steven Verplanken 3-point play sealed the Wildcat win.Â
Dillon Jones led WSU with 21 points on 7 of 9 shooting and 7 of 7 from the free throw line. Jones had a season-low two rebounds, but did have five assists and three steals.Â
Verplancken added 12 points and Alex Tew had eight points, eight rebounds, and a career-high five steals. Vilijami Vartianen also added eight points off the bench.Â
Weber State now hits the road for the next three games with two games at Idaho and Eastern Washington next Thursday and Saturday.Â
