Weber State won its fifth straight game with a 70-69 win in Moscow.
MOSCOW - It's not March yet but it was madness in Moscow.Â
That was the message from Weber State head coach Eric Duft after the Wildcats scored the final eight points of the game and pulled off a wild comeback win 70-69 over Idaho Thursday night at the ICCU Arena in Moscow.Â
Idaho led by as many as eight points in the second half and held a seven-point lead at 69-62 with 1:24 to play. Weber State then forced four straight Idaho turnovers.Â
Blaise Threatt made two free throws, KJ Cunningham a layup, Alex Tew a tip-in, and then two Dillon Jones free throws gave the 'Cats a 70-69 lead with 15 seconds to play. Idaho missed their final shot and Jones pulled down the rebound to seal the comeback win. Â
Dillon Jones had another one of his best games as a Wildcat as he finished with 29 points, tied his career-high with nine assists, and had six rebounds. He was 8 of 15 from the field and 12 of 13 from the free throw line and played all 40 minutes in the game.Â
Dyson Koehler was the only other Wildcat in double figures as he finished with 11 points and had three steals. Steven Verplancken and Tew each added seven points and Threatt had six.Â
Idaho shot 56 percent from the field, the second-best percentage against the Wildcats this season. The Wildcats shot 49 percent from the field and were 18 of 23 from the free throw line. The 'Cats had just seven turnovers and forced 13 Vandal turnovers.Â
"It's that time of year when it's about players making plays and they deserve all the credit," Duft said. "They hung in and made the plays when they needed to."
The win is the fifth straight for the Wildcats who improve to 17-9 overall and 8-5 in Big Sky play.Â
Weber State continues its road trip at league-leading Eastern Washington on Saturday afternoon in Cheney. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. Pacific time (3 p.m. Mountain).
