Weber State wins sixth straight game 90-84 at Eastern Washington

Dillon Jones tied his career-high with 30 points and Weber State made 13 3-pointers.

CHENEY, Wash. - Dillon Jones tied his career-high with 30 points and Weber State made 13 3-pointers as the Wildcats won their sixth-straight game with a 90-84 win at Eastern Washington Saturday afternoon at Reese Court. 

The Wildcats handed Eastern Washington its first home loss of the season and the 'Cats move to 9-5 in Big Sky play. Eastern Washington is first in the Big Sky standings, now at 11-2 in Big Sky play.  

Jones had another strong all-around performance in leading the Wildcats as he tied his career-high with 30 points and added eight rebounds and eight assists. He has scored 20 or more points in every game of WSU's six-game winning streak. Jones was 11 of 22 from the field and 5 of 6 from the free throw line. 

The Wildcats led by as many as 13 points in the first half and led 44-33 at the break after making eight 3-pointers in the half and shooting 52 percent from the field. 

Weber State took its biggest lead of the game at 17 points midway through the second half before an Eastern Washington run. The Eagles went on a 22-5 run and tied the game at 78-78 with 3:51 remaining. But Weber State responded with an 8-1 run of its own and took a seven point lead with 1:20 to play and held on for the win. 

It's Weber Stae's seventh win on the road this season. 

The 13 3-pointers are tied for the most against a Division I opponent this season as Weber State finished 13 of 24 from 3-point range for 54 percent shooting. 

The Wildcats shot 54 percent overall and 54 percent from 3-point range and held EWU to 33 percent shooting from the 3-point line. 

Weber State also had 17 assists and six steals and was 11 of 15 from the free throw line. 

WSU finished with five players in double figures, led by Jones. Steven Verplancken added 18 points and made four 3-pointers. Blaise Threatt had 15 points, Dyson Koheler added 12 and KJ Cunningham had 11 points off the bench. Cunningham played in his 134th career game, which is now tied with Michal Kozak for the most games played in Weber State history. 

"Our thought our team was really locked in and didn't flinch," said WSU head coach Eric Duft. "They made a rally but we hung in there and were able to get back in control of the game and made big plays down the stretch.  

The six-game winning streak keeps the Wildcats a half-game out of second place in the Big Sky standings with four conference games remaining. 

The Wildcats have just one game next week as WSU will play at Idaho State on Saturday, February 24 in Pocatello. Weber State's final two home games will be on February 29 against Northern Colorado and March 2 against Northern Arizona.
