Wildcats lead from start to finish in 84-72 win over Vikings

Four players scored in double figures as Weber State won its third-straight game
OGDEN - Four players scored in double figures as Weber State led from start to finish in an 84-72 win over Portland State Thursday night at the Dee Events Center.Â
It's the third-straight win for the Wildcats who improve to 15-9 overall and 6-5 in Big Sky play.Â
Weber State got off to a tremendous start in the first half, jumping out to a 17-4 lead seven minutes into the game. WSU led by as many as 23 points at 32-9 in the first half and held a 45-26 lead at halftime.Â
The Wildcats shot 66 percent from the field in the first half, including 7 of 10 from 3-point range.Â
The Vikings made a rally in the second half and cut the lead to 10 points with 11:18 to play and to eight points with 3:09 to play, but Weber State made seven free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win.Â
Dillon Jones had his 14th double-double of the season with 20 points, 15 rebounds, to go along with seven assists and three steals. Jones also moved past Damian Lillard into second place on the Weber State career assists list.
Dyson Koehler added 17 points with three 3-pointers, and pulled down six rebounds. Blaise Threatt added 14 points and Steven Verplancken had 12.Â
The Wildcats shot 53 percent from the field and were 9 of 17 from 3-point range. The 'Cats held Portland State to 39 percent shooting and just four 3-pointers. WSU also had a season-high eight blocks with Alex Tew posting a career-high four blocks and Handje Tamba a career-high three blocks.
Weber State will be back at the Dee Events Center Saturday night to host Sacramento State. It's also the annual Mascot halftime game at Weber State.
