Defense beat the offense in the modified scoring system. 2024 season begins August 31 at Washington

The Weber State football team concluded the 2024 spring season with the annual spring game on a beautiful day at Stewart Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The defense beat the offense 33-24 team in a modified scoring system on Saturday in the approximately 100-play scrimmage.

The offense got the scoring started with a 65-yard touchdown run by quarterback Creyton Cooper.

The defense then scored a touchdown as Jagger Childs intercepted a pass and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown.

Colter May later added a three-yard touchdown run and Dallas Larson had a two-yard touchdown. Kyle Thompson also connected on a 33-yard field goal.

"It was great to see the guys come out and compete and I thought they did that on both sides of the ball today," said WSU head coach Mickey Mental. "I thought the defense did a good job inside the red zone. They played hard and with a lot of energy and physicality."

Sophomore quarterback Richie Munoz led the offense as he threw for over 100 yards on the day.

"This spring was all about improvement and doing the best we can and I think we did that on offense and defense," Munoz said. "Now we have to work hard over the summer to be ready for the season."

On defense, Alema Tupuola also had an interception, along with Jagger Childs, and the 'Cats had several tackles for loss.

Weber State now turns its attention to the 2024 season which begins on August 31 at Washington. WSU will also play non-conference games at Lamar and Northwestern State, and a home game against McNeese.

The Big Sky season includes home games against Portland State, Northern Colorado, Idaho State, and Cal Poly, and road games at Montana, Sacramento State, Northern Arizona, and Idaho.
