Wildcats close out season against NAU Saturday at Stewart Stadium

Saturday will be Senior Day for 18 Wildcat seniors.

• Weber State will close out the 2025 season with another rivalry game on Senior Day as the Wildcats host Northern Arizona this Saturday afternoon. 

• Weber State is 3-8 overall and 1-6 in Big Sky play and are coming off a 31-3 loss at Idaho State last Saturday. 

• WSU is under the direction of interim head coach Brent Myers who will be coaching his second game as interim head coach. WSU announced a change in coaching leadership and parted ways with head coach Mickey Mental after three seasons. 

Robert Conley is the offensive coordinator for the final two games. 

• Northern Arizona is 7-4 overall and 4-3 in Big Sky play heading into the regular season finale. The Lumberjacks are in the hunt for an FCS Playoff spot. 

• NAU is ranked 23rd in the nation in this week's Stats Perform poll.   

• Saturday's game is the Red Rock Rivalry trophy game and this will be the 58th all-time meeting between the two schools. 

• It will also be Senior Day for Weber State as the Wildcats will honor the 18 seniors on this year's team prior to the game.  

Media coverage   

Saturday's game will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. at Stewart Stadium in Ogden. It will be streamed on ESPN+ and the ESPN app with Ethan Jordan and Frank Dolce calling the action. 

The Weber State radio broadcast will be on 103.1 FM with Carl Arky and former WSU head coach and athletic director Jerry Graybeal on the call.

Weber State announces football leadership change

On November 10, Weber State announced a leadership change in its football program as the school parted ways with head coach Mickey Mental.

Mental was the head coach of Weber State and offensive coordinator for the past three seasons, and spent one season as the offensive coordinator before becoming head coach. In his three seasons as head coach, he posted a record of 13-20 overall and was 8-14 in Big Sky Conference games. 

Brent Myers named interim head coach for remainder of the 2025 season

Weber State has named Brent Myers as the interim head coach for the final two games of the 2025 season. Myers has been the associate head coach at Weber State since 2014. He has been a part of 141 games as a coach in his 12 seasons at Weber State and has coached over 500 career games in 42 years of college coaching. Myers has also been the offensive line coach for the Wildcats. He has been a part of four Big Sky Championship teams, as well as six appearances in the FCS Playoffs during his time at Weber State. 

Robert Conley is serving as the offensive coordinator for the final two games. Conley is in his sixth season on the Weber State staff and has spent the last two seasons as the Run Game Coordinator and tight ends coach. He has also coached the running backs at Weber State. 

Senior Day for 18 Wildcat seniors 

Prior to Saturday's game, Weber State will honor its seniors on this year's roster who will be playing their final games at WSU. 

The 'Cats will honor Peyton Beck, Trevor Beck, Ben Beecher, Noah Bennee, Bird Butler, Sloan Calder, Cole Casto, Rishi Daniels, Toddrick Dixon, Ethen Erickson, Devin Ford, Zach Hrbacek, Angel King, Colter May, Gavin Ortega, Easton Payne, Jayleen Record, and Jason White

Red Rock Rivalry trophy on the line

For the second straight week, Weber State will be playing for a trophy. This Saturday the Wildcats and Lumberjacks will be playing for the Red Rock Rivalry Trophy. 

The Red Rock Rivalry trophy was introduced in 2022 between Weber State and Northern Arizona as the two teams will play each other each season. Weber State won the first game when the trophy was introduced in 2022, but NAU has won the last two trophy games. 

Sloan Calder makes field goal and moves into top 10

The only scoring for the Wildcats at Idaho State was a 25-yard field goal by senior Sloan Calder in the fourth quarter. 

That field goal gave Calder 16 made field goals this season, which is now tied for the 10th most in a season in WSU history. He tied Roger Ruzek (1982) and Scott Shields (1995 and 1998), with 16 made field goals in a season. 

On the year, Calder is 16 of 19 on field goal attempts. The 16 field goals is tied for the second-most of any player in the country this season. He is also 17th in the country in field goal percentage. 

Calder has made 10 of his last 11 field goal attempts. 

Team captains  

As selected by their teammates, Weber State has named four captains for the 2025 season. Wildcat senior fullback Colter May, senior offensive lineman Gavin Ortega, senior wide receiver Jayleen Record, and junior defensive tackle Keahnist Thompson will be the team captains for the 2025 season. Record is a captain for the second-straight season. May and Ortega were both selected as preseason All-Big Sky selections. 

About Northern Arizona

Northern Arizona enters Saturday's game at 7-4 overall and 4-3 in Big Sky play and in the hunt for an FCS Playoff selection. The Lumberjacks are ranked 23rd in the nation in this week's FCS Stats Perform poll. 

After a season-opening loss at No. 11 Arizona State, NAU won four straight games. They have won three of their last four games, including home wins over Cal Poly and Northern Colorado the last two weeks. 

This season, NAU is ninth in the nation in kickoff returns at 25.1 yards per return. The Lumberjacks are also 13th nationally in time of possession, 13th in completion percentage, 14th in passing offense, 18th in fewest penalties, and 21st in red zone offense.  

The Lumberjacks are coached by Brian Wright who is in his second season as head coach.   

Series history

  This will be the 58th all-time meeting between the two schools with NAU holding a narrow 29-28 series advantage. The Lumberjacks won the last two games, 2023 in Ogden and a 27-6 win in Flagstaff last season.  

In games in Ogden, Weber State is 19-9 all-time. NAU won the last game in 2023 but WSU had won the two previous games.
