SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Weber State University men's golf program has accepted an invitation to join the Summit League as an affiliate member beginning July 1, 2024 as was announced by the conference and the Wildcat athletics department on Tuesday.
"We are thrilled to join the Summit League as an affiliate member in men's golf," said Weber State Director of Athletics Tim Crompton. "We are deeply grateful to Commissioner Josh Fenton and all the Summit League member institutions for welcoming us. This opportunity not only provides a home for our student-athletes but also broadens the competitive horizons for our program. A special thanks to our Big Sky Conference Commissioner Tom Wistrcill and to everyone else involved for making this possible."
Following the departures of affiliate members Hartford and Binghamton from the Big Sky Conference last summer, the league's men's golf lineup was left with just four members in Idaho, Northern Colorado, Sacramento State and Weber State. With the Big Sky's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships set to expire as the league was below the minimum required number of teams, the 2023-24 season was the last for the sport in the conference for the foreseeable future and left the four teams looking for new homes.
"We are grateful for the opportunity to join the Summit League in men's golf," said WSU head coach Scott Erling. "We are excited for the chance to compete and we look forward to being a proud member of the conference."
Joining Weber State in the Summit League from the Big Sky will be Northern Colorado. The two teams will be the 10th and 11th men's golf programs in the league joining the University of Denver, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, the University of North Dakota, North Dakota State University, the University of Nebraska Omaha, Oral Roberts University, the University of St. Thomas, the University of South Dakota, and South Dakota State University.
