WSU Finishes Fifth at Big Sky Championships

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Weber State men's golf team wrapped up the 2026 Big Sky Conference Championships in fifth place on Wednesday, following a 6-over par final round score of 294 at Wigwam Golf Club.
The Wildcats opened the tournament in fifth with a score of 299 on Monday, but made a big move in the second round on Tuesday, posting a 15-under par 273 to jump to third. The team slipped back into fifth over the final day, finishing the tournament at 2-over par 866.
Matthew Wilson was the lone Wildcat in red figures on the final day, carding two birdies and an eagle in a 2-under par 70 over the final 18 holes. After opening with rounds of 73 and 67, Wilson's final round 70 saw him post a 6-under par total of 210. He finished the tournament in a team-best fourth place overall, earning him All-Tournament honors.
Bobby Kincaid gave the Wildcats two players in the top-10 as he finished in a tie for ninth place at 2-under par 214 on rounds of 74, 67 and 73.
Markus Nanpei earned a top-20 finish, placing 19th at 4-over par 220 on rounds of 77, 68 and 75, while Ty Anderson tied for 23rd overall on rounds of 76, 71 and 76 for a 7-over par total of 223.
Jesus Castaneda played the first and third rounds for the Wildcats, carding rounds of 76 and 77, while substitute Ryan Takeshita was inserted for the second round and produced a 1-under par 71.
Sacramento State finished play with a 23-under 841 (290, 270, 281) to set a new Big Sky Championship record for 54-hole team score and defend its conference championship from 2025. That finish put them nine shots clear of the Idaho Vandals, who finished at 14-under.
On the individual side, the title came down to a playoff between a pair of teammates, with Sacramento State's Gabriel Smith and Jai Bahl both finishing competition at 9-under. Ultimately, on Hole No. 1, Smith secured a birdie to take home the league's top prize.
