WSU football concludes 2024 Big Sky Kickoff

Weber State begins practice on July 31 with the season opener on August 31.
SPOKANE, Wash. - Football is just around the corner and Weber State joined the rest of the Big Sky Conference at the annual Big Sky Kickoff held at the Northern Quest Resort in Spokane, Washington.Â
All 12 football schools bring the head coach and two players to the Kickoff, which was held July 20-22.Â
Weber State head coach Mickey Mental was joined by junior cornerback Jalon Rock and senior running back Damon Bankston at the Kickoff.Â
On Saturday, the conference held its Hall of Fame ceremony which included legendary Weber State men's basketball coach Dick Motta who was the fifth Wildcat inducted into the Big Sky Hall of Fame. Motta was the head coach at Weber State from 1960-68 and then had a 25-year coaching career in the NBA.Â
Sunday's events included meetings for coaches and players and a meeting with former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf.Â
The players also did photo and video shoots for the conference and Scripps Sports.Â
Sunday night's festivities included a dinner and the presentation of the 2023-24 Big Sky Presidents' Cup, won by Weber State for the sixth time, the most in league history.Â
Monday saw media interviews for coaches and players and a live show on ESPN+.Â
Weber State was picked sixth in the Big Sky preseason coaches poll and Brayden Wilson was named to the preseason all-conference team.Â
The Wildcats open practice on July 31 for the 2024 season with the season opener set for August 31 at Washington. The home and Big Sky opener will be on September 7 against Portland State.Â
