Wildcats drop match to Mustangs on day two of the Doubletree Classic

DALLAS - The SMU Mustangs defeated the Wildcats in three sets on Friday afternoon in Weber State's second game of the SMU Doubletree Classic at Moody Coliseum.

SET 1 | Quick to start the set, the Mustangs took an early advantage after a trio of kills and pair of service aces. Using a 5-0 run to bring the score to 23-15, SMU capped off the set 25-19.

SET 2 | The Wildcat offense came out fighting in the second, with a five point run that included two service aces by Ashley Gneiting and a kill by Jayda Tupea. The 'Cats held onto that lead until a 7-0 run and 9-0 run led the Mustangs to a set two victory.

SET 3 | Similar to the first two sets, SMU secured an advantage early on. With Weber State unable to surpass that lead, the Mustangs ended the third set 25-15 and swept the match.

Weber State totaled a .070 hitting percentage as a team and overall tallied 22 kills, 40 digs, and 3 aces.

Tupea led the Wildcat squad with six kills and nine digs.

COMING UP
Weber State will face Milwaukee on the third and final day of the SMU Doubletree Classic on September 7 at 10 a.m. (MT).
