Wildcat Track and Field finish Snake River Open

Wildcat track and field wrapped up the Snake River Open hosted by Idaho State University with multiple top five finishes. The meet was held in Pocatello, Idaho between January 16 & 17.Â
"It was nice seeing some really solid competition this early in the season. I thought the guys did a great job preparing and competing throughout the day," head coach Corbin Talley said. "We had some outstanding performances from Jake Weathers in the weight through, Bryson Ottley in the 800m and Alex Wheeler in the 200 m."
Jake Weathers moved into ninth on the all-time list in the weight throw with a mark of 59-03.00 and a second place finish and Ryan Johnson finished eighth with a mark of 51-01.75.Â
Bryson Ottley finished first in the 800 meter with a time of 1:52.81 and Henry Prusse finished fourth at 1:55.54.Â
Malik Johnson finished fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.36 and another fourth place finish in the finals with a time of 8.42.Â
Alex Wheeler led the squad with a fourth place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 21.78, Rodee Brow finished sixth at 22.10 and Tristan Spalding finished close behind in seventh at 22.40, Noah Kjar finished ninth at 22.64 and Johnson finished 16th at 23.26.Â
Johnson, Prusse, Eli Taylor and Ben Johansen recorded a fifth place finish in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:27.86.Â
Eight Wildcats competed in the mile and Hanokh Gailson led the squad with a fifth place at 8:25.92, Tanner Rogers finished in 11th at 8:34.60, Evaan Harris 8:44.32, Bryce Anderson finished 17th at 8:44.79, Jess Christiansen finished in 23rd at 8:55.09, Taylor Knight was close behind in 24th at 8:56.38, Tyler Spencer finished 28th at 8:59.64 and Wyatt Wingard finished 9:06.78. Â
TJ Warnick finished the mile in sixth at 4:15.25, Alex Harbertson finished seventh at 4:16.31 and Will Luoma at 4:24.59.Â
Kjar recorded a seventh place finish in the 60 meter prelims with a time of 6.92 and Spalding finished 14th at 7.22.Â
Ryan Talbot recorded an eighth place finish in the heptathlon with 4,150 total points.Â
"Unfortunately, we're battling a few nagging injuries that we hope to see improvement on in the coming weeks," Talley said. "We've got to get ourselves a little healthier, and continue to show some fire and fight in these upcoming meets. We're definitely seeing some early season growth, and I'm excited to see how the guys will respond to a few challenges that we're facing."Â
The 'Cats will be back in action next week with athletes traveling between three meets. They will compete at the Washington Invitational and the New Mexico Team Open from January 31 to February 1 and the Utah State Speed and Power meet on February 1.Â
