Wildcats continue road trip against Eagles Saturday

Weber State women's basketball will matchup against the Eastern Washington Eagles this Saturday at Reese Court in Cheney, WA. 

This will be the 95th all-time meeting between the Wildcats and Eagles with the series beginning in 1978. The series is led by Weber State 48-47 with the Eagles leading in Cheney 27-17. In the last game between the two, the Eagles won 71-58 in the second round of the Big Sky Tournament in Boise. 

Eastern Washington is under the direction of Joddie Gleason who joined the Eagles in 2021. Last season, Gleason lead the Eagles to a 29-6, 16-2 record, won the Big Sky Conference Tournament and earned Big Sky Coach of the Year. Prior to her time in Cheney, she coached at SeattleU, Humboldt State and Butte Community College. 

The Eagles are 7-14, 3-6 with their most recent win against the Idaho State Bengals, 78-71. Eastern Washington is led by Peyton Howard who averages 13.7 points per game and Kourtney Grossman who leads the team in rebounds with 10.1 per game. Eastern Washington was picked eighth in the Big Sky Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Weber State is under the direction of second year head coach Jenteal Jackson who was named the seventh head coach in WSU history. A Utah native and former in-state college player, she came to Weber State after spending the two seasons as head coach at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Prior to becoming head coach, she spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Westminster. She played college basketball at BYU and Westminster. 

Kendra Parra recorded a career-high 30 points in the Wildcats game against Sacramento State. Dominating offensively and defensively, Antoniette Emma-Nnopu recorded her sixth double-double of the season against the Hornets as she finished the game with 17 points and 15 rebounds. 

Three Wildcats are nationally ranked in the top 100. Taylor Smith is ranked No. 8 in free throw percentage and No. 89 is blocks per game. Kendra Parra is ranked No. 9 in free throw percentage. Antoniette Emma-Nnopu is ranked No. 84 in rebounds, No. 37 in rebounds per game and No. 49 in double-doubles.  

Wildcats Kendra Parra, Kennedy Eskelson, Margarita Satini, Taylor Smith, and Amanda Edwards all return to the Weber State team this season. Weber State picked up transfers Rose Bubakar from BYU, Antoniette Emma-Nnopu from UNC Greensboro, Lanae Billy from Fort Lewis College, Japrix Stubbs from USU Eastern, and Arizana Peaua from Westminster. The team also welcomed five newcomers, Maya Davis, Fui Niumeitolu, Mata Peaua, Dakota Nap, and Vanna Quintana.

Following Saturday's game, the Wildcats continue on the road for a matchup against Northern Arizona and Idaho State.
