Ogden, UT - Weber State men's tennis program signed 4 new players to the team for their 2026 signing class.
Of the four new players, two hail from South Africa and two from France.
Dawid Scholtz, from South Africa, signed on with the Wildcats this week. Scholtz was ranked number 5 nationally in South Africa and was a national doubles finalist and a top 8 masters finalist in his home country.
"Dawid has an aggressive all-round game, with a powerful forehand and a consistent
backhand." Head Coach Brad Ferreira, "He is expected to bring great leadership qualities to our team after being a captain on the South African Schools' team and at Paarl Boys ' High."
Toit Malan also signed with the Wildcats this week. The South African was a quarterfinalist in the South African junior championships and also represented the Western Province in the Zonal and state championships.
"Toit comes from a dominant tennis family with brothers who have played college tennis." Ferreira said, "He is also expected to contribute in many ways to our team after being a captain and 4-year starter at Paarl Boys High, the #2-ranked team in the country."
The Wildcats also signed Frenchman Clement Lecoq. Lecoq has been playing tennis since he was 4, and his left-handed touch has contributed to his great success in France with a 1/6 ranking.
"Clement is a player I am excited to watch play and grow, and someone who will also
make our doubles line-up much stronger," Ferreira said.
Finally, the Wildcats added Matis Faurie as a transfer. He qualified for the prestigious Petits A's at the age of 12 and has been a strong national club player competing in the French Championships. He currently holds wins over Lucien Forestier -2/6 11.9 UTR and Gianluca Acquaroli, who holds a -4/6 rating.
"His vast experience has helped him achieve a solid UTR and a French rating of 0.
He will vastly improve our singles line-up," Ferreira said.
The Wildcats will begin their spring season at BYU on Saturday, January 17th.
