The 'Cats wrapped up a busy weekend between the Washington Invitational, New Mexico Team Open and the Utah State Speed and Power meet between Jan.31 and Feb. 1. The team had multiple record-breaking performances.Â
"We were in three different places this week," Corbin Talley, head coach, said. "We had distance runners competing in Seattle at the UW Invitational; sprinters, jumpers, and hurdles at the New Mexico Team Open in Albuquerque; and some of our younger athletes and our throwers up in Logan for the Utah Speed and Power meet."Â
Throwers will be back in action next week in Spokane, Washington.Â
"All around we have some amazing things this weekend," Talley said. "Probably highlighted by Alex Wheeler setting our school record in the 200m dash. Alex has worked extremely hard, and no one is more deserving. We're proud of him."Â
Washington InvitationalÂ
For the mile, Bryce Anderson and Hanokh Gailson ran in seventh heat, Anderson recorded a fifth place finish at 4:03.83 and Gailson finished eighth at 4:06.56 and Kelton Gagnon finished second in his heat at 4:01.17.
"Bryce also set a great PR in the mile, which puts him on the all-time list," Talley said. "I'm super impressed with Bryce and the work he's put in and the progression he's made over his five years at Weber."Â
Following their performances, Gagnon is now fourth on Weber State's All-Time list and Anderson is tenth.Â
TJ Warnick recorded a third place finish in his heat with a time of 4:10.29, Alex Harbertson competed in the same heat and finished in eighth at 4:14.48.Â
"The distance runners had a number of PR's and all-time marks in Seattle," Talley said. "Kelton Gagnon moved up on our list in both the 3000m and mile. He made a great run at sub 4:00 but short of that, and is our fourth fastest in school history."
Gagnon recorded a first place finish in their heat of the 3000 meter with a time of 8:04.91 and Tanner Rogers recorded a ninth place finish in the second heat at8:23.79.Â
Gagnon is now sixth on the all-time list following this performance.Â
"Last night, we had a trio of guys run really well in the 5000m," Talley said. "Our new addition Jake Peterson, ran 14:04 for a big PR and our all-time #4. Wesley Kallgren and Tanner Rogers also improved their times."
Jacob Peterson recorded a fourth place finish in the second heat of the 5000 meter with a time of 14:04.45 and Wesley Kallgren finished tenth in the same heat at 14:16.86.Â
New Mexico Team OpenÂ
Alex Wheeler recorded a fifth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.16 and Tristan Spalding recorded a time of 22.27.Â
Wheeler broke the school record in the 200 meter that has been at 21:31 since 2017. He was previously third on the all-time list.Â
Henry Prusse finished fifth in the 600 meter run at 1:19.36 and now holds the school record.Â
"Henry set a school record for us in the 600m. It's an event we don't compete in often. But his time of 1:19 shows a lot of promise for future 800m racing."Â
Bryson Ottley recorded an eighth place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:51.53 and Prusse finished at 1:55.59.
Ottley is now seventh on the all-time list.Â
"He just keeps dropping time and will soon be under that 1:50 second barrier," Talley said.Â
Wheeler finished tenth in the 400 meter dash at 47.83 and Malik Johnson finished at 50.00.Â
Wheeler also secured ninth on the all-time list following their performance in the 400 meter.Â
Wheeler, Spalding, Johnson and Ottley recorded an eighth place finish in the 4x400 relay with a time 3:14.51.
Johnson finished 18th in the 60 meter hurdles prelims with a time of 8.57 and Ryan Talbot finished in 20th at 8.79.Â
