'Cats Shake Rust with Strong Second Round at Orange County Collegiate

COTO de CAZA, Calif. – After opening the day with a 23-over par 311 in the first round of the Van Harte Orange County Collegiate Classic on Monday at Coto de Caza Golf Club, the Weber State men's golf team shook some of the winter rust in the afternoon, bouncing back with a 3-over par 291 in the second round. The Wildcats sit in eighth place at 602 through 36 holes of the 54-hole event.
UC Riverside led the field over the opening day, shooting rounds of 292 and 285 for a 1-over par total of 577. Cal State Fullerton is in second at 579, while tournament-host UC Irvine is third at 585.
Bobby Kincaid opened his day with a triple bogey and bogeyed three of the next four holes to sit at 6-over through five holes, but he would right the ship, posting an eagle and a birdie to offset two more bogeys over his final 13 holes of the morning round to shoot a 77. He then carded four five birdies against a pair of bogeys in the afternoon for a 3-under par 69 in the second round to jump all the way up into a tie for 12th place at 146 with Tuesday's final round remaining.
Ty Anderson carded six birdies on the day over back-to-back rounds of 2-over par 74 and is in a tie for 18th place at 148, while Matthew Wilson shot rounds of 78 and 74 and is tied for 32nd at 152.
Luke Smith is in 50th place with a two-round total of 161. After opening with a 15-over par 87, he bounced back in a big way with a second round 74.
Cormack Goecke shot rounds of 82 and 80 and is tied for 51st at 162.
Tuesday's final round will begin at 9:30 a.m. Mountain Time.
