GAME NOTES: Wildcats face Montana State and Montana at home this week

Weber State women's basketball will matchup against the Montana State Bobcats on Thursday at the Dee Events Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

This will be the 97th all-time meeting between the Wildcats and Bobcats with the series beginning in 1977. The series is led by Montana State 62-34 with the series tied 22-22 in Ogden. In the last game between the two, Montana State secured a 75-51 victory.

The Bobcats are 22-2, 12-0 this season and are led by Esmeralda Morales (a transfer this year from Portland State) who averages 15.1 points per game. Morales also leads the Bobcats in 3-pointers, free throws, assists and steals. Marah Dykstra who received 2023-24 Big Sky Second Team All-Conference honors leads Montana State in rebounds with an average of 4.9 per game. Morales and Dykstra were both picked to the Big Sky Preseason All-Conference Team. Montana State was picked second in the Big Sky Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Montana State is under the direction of Head Coach Tricia Binford. Binford took over the program in 2005 and has become MSU's longest tenured coach as well as its winningest in history. For the past 17 seasons, Binford has not had a losing season, a stretch that ranks number one in the annals of Montana State women's basketball.

The Wildcats are coming off a 79-76 overtime win against the Idaho State Bengals. During those five minutes, the 'Cats did not score a field goal, but instead totaled 10 free throws to secure the win. In the previous game against the Bengals on Jan. 11, the Wildcats also defeated the Bengals in overtime 72-67. Taylor Smith led the team with 24 points going 2-for-2 from long range and 6-for-8 from the free throw line. Kendra Parra also scored over 20 points with 21 while going 3-for-4 from behind the arc and 6-for-7 at the free throw line.

Weber State is under the direction of second year head coach Jenteal Jackson who was named the seventh head coach in WSU history. A Utah native and former in-state college player, she came to Weber State after spending the two seasons as head coach at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Prior to becoming head coach, she spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Westminster. She played college basketball at BYU and Westminster.

Three Wildcats are nationally ranked in the top 100. Antoniette Emma-Nnopu is ranked No. 36 in double-doubles, No. 67 in rebounds, No. 27 in offensive rebounds and No. 33 in rebounds per game. Taylor Smith is ranked No. 12 in free throw percentage and Kendra Parra is ranked No. 9 in free throw percentage and No. 88 in free throws.

Wildcats Kendra Parra, Kennedy Eskelson, Margarita Satini, Taylor Smith, and Amanda Edwards all return to the Weber State team this season. Weber State picked up transfers Rose Bubakar from BYU, Antoniette Emma-Nnopu from UNC Greensboro, Lanae Billy from Fort Lewis College, Japrix Stubbs from USU Eastern, and Arizana Peaua from Westminster. The team also welcomed five newcomers, Maya Davis, Fui Niumeitolu, Mata Peaua, Dakota Nap, and Vanna Quintana.

Following Thursday's game, the Wildcats are home for another on Feb. 15 against Montana.
