2/15/2025 4:51:00 PM | Women's Basketball
OGDEN - The Wildcats snapped a series six game losing streak to the Lady Griz this Saturday afternoon at the Dee Events Center with a 73-69 victory, and their seventh Big Sky win. The last time that the women's basketball program had seven or more Big Sky wins was during the 2017-18 season.
First Half | Montana took the early lead to start the quarter until a 19-0 run made by the Wildcats gave them the advantage 21-11. The Lady Griz battled from the deficit but could not regain the lead as Weber State closed the quarter 25-16. The 'Cats shot 80 percent from long range going 4-for-5 courtesy of Taylor Smith and Lanae Billy.
The Wildcats continued to maintain a steady lead throughout the second quarter putting up 13 points and shooting 48.1 percent from the field compared to their opponents 27.3 percent. Smith and Billy both ended the half with 10 points.
Second Half | Back-to-back Wildcat 3-pointers plus another shortly after increased the 'Cats lead 56-34 throughout the first five minutes of the third quarter. Not allowing the Lady Griz to recover from the deficit, the Wildcats maintained a 17 point gap headed into the final frame.
Montana found their way back in the fourth quarter as they pushed to trail Weber State by just two points with under 30 seconds to go. A battle until the very end, good free throws by the Wildcats kept them ahead just enough to secure the win at home.
