GAME NOTES: Women's basketball at Sacramento State Thursday

Weber State women's basketball will matchup against the Sacramento State Hornets on Thursday in Sacramento, CA. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (MT).

This will be the 57th all-time meeting between the Wildcats and Hornets with the series beginning in 1997. The series is led by Weber State 36-21 with the series tied 13-13 in Sacramento. In the last game this season between the two, Weber State secured a 68-52 win over the Hornets. The Hornets are led by Head Coach Aaron Kallhoff who became Sacramento State's seventh head coach in spring of 2023. The Hornets are 11-15, 4-9 this season, led by Jaydia Martin who averages 14.4 points per game. Martin also leads the team in 3-pointers, rebounds and steals.

The Wildcats are coming off a 73-69 win to the Montana Lady Griz. Despite being out scored 25-12 in the final frame of game play, the Wildcats secured valuable free throws to help secure the victory. Lanae Billy led the team with 16 points and Antoniette Emma-Nnopu with eight rebounds. Weber State went 12-for-15 at the free throw line.

Weber State is under the direction of second year head coach Jenteal Jackson who was named the seventh head coach in WSU history. A Utah native and former in-state college player, she came to Weber State after spending the two seasons as head coach at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Prior to becoming head coach, she spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Westminster. She played college basketball at BYU and Westminster.

Four Wildcats are nationally ranked in the top 100:
  • Taylor Smith is ranked No. 37 in free throw percentage.
  • Kendra Parra is ranked No. 7 in free throw percentage and No. 95 in free throws.
  • Antoniette Emma-Nnopu is ranked No. 42 in double-doubles, No. 74 in rebounds and No. 44 in rebounds per game.
  • Lanae Billy is ranked No. 28 in three point percentage.
Wildcats Kendra Parra, Kennedy Eskelson, Margarita Satini, Taylor Smith, and Amanda Edwards all returned to the Weber State team this season. Weber State picked up transfers Rose Bubakar from BYU, Antoniette Emma-Nnopu from UNC Greensboro, Lanae Billy from Fort Lewis College, Japrix Stubbs from USU Eastern, and Arizana Peaua from Westminster. The team also welcomed five newcomers, Maya Davis, Fui Niumeitolu, Mata Peaua, Dakota Nap, and Vanna Quintana.

Following Thursday's game, the Wildcats are up against Portland State February 22 at 2 p.m. in Portland.
