GAME NOTES: Wildcats close out weekend against Vikings

Senior Day for the Wildcats is March 1.

Weber State women's basketball will matchup against the Portland State Vikings on Saturday in Portland, OR. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. (MT). The Wildcats are coming off a 56-45 loss to the Sacramento State Hornets this past Thursday. 

This will be the 66th all-time meeting between the Wildcats and Vikings with the series beginning in 1983. The series is led by Weber State 34-31 however, Portland State leads in games played in Portland 19-12. In the last game between the two this season, Weber State secured a 62-48 win over the Vikings.

The Vikings are led by Chelsey Gregg who became head coach of the team in 2021. In her three previous years as head coach plus her six years as an assistant and then associate head coach, the Vikings have made the semifinals of the Big Sky tournament four times, including a conference tournament title in 2019. She has guided players to two All-Big Sky first-team selections, a Big Sky tournament MVP and a Big Sky Preseason MVP.

Weber State is under the direction of second year head coach Jenteal Jackson who was named the seventh head coach in WSU history. A Utah native and former in-state college player, she came to Weber State after spending the two seasons as head coach at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Prior to becoming head coach, she spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Westminster. She played college basketball at BYU and Westminster.

Four Wildcats are nationally ranked in the top 100:
Taylor Smith is ranked No. 53 in free throw percentage.
Kendra Parra is ranked No. 9 in free throw percentage.
Antoniette Emma-Nnopu is ranked No. 49 in double-doubles, No. 61 in rebounds and No. 41 in rebounds per game.
Lanae Billy is ranked No. 26 in three point percentage.

Wildcats Kendra Parra, Kennedy Eskelson, Margarita Satini, Taylor Smith, and Amanda Edwards all returned to the Weber State team this season. Weber State picked up transfers Rose Bubakar from BYU, Antoniette Emma-Nnopu from UNC Greensboro, Lanae Billy from Fort Lewis College, Japrix Stubbs from USU Eastern, and Arizana Peaua from Westminster. The team also welcomed five newcomers, Maya Davis, Fui Niumeitolu, Mata Peaua, Dakota Nap, and Vanna Quintana.

Following Saturday's game, the Wildcats are up against Eastern Washington February 27 at 6 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.
