PORTLAND, Ore. - The Weber State women's basketball team took down the Portland State Vikings 71-56 on the road. The win improves the Wildcats to 8-7 in Big Sky play.
First Half | A closely contested first quarter left the Wildcats and Vikings ready to battle in the second 10 minutes of game play. Despite a Weber State early 9-0 run, Portland State used a nine point run of their own to lead the Wildcats by one 12-11 at the end of the first frame.
The Wildcats and Vikings went at it in the second quarter as the Wildcats fought the deficit to tie the score 29-29 with just over a minute until the half. However, Portland State put up a late layup and free throw to lead heading into the half 32-29.
Second Half | The Wildcats took the lead early in the third quarter following two 3-pointers by Lanae Billy. Finding momentum and creating separation, Weber State went on a 9-0 run going up 51-40 and forcing Portland State to a timeout. An outstanding quarter for the 'Cats, Weber State went into the final frame with a 14 point lead. Strong defense and offense in the fourth quarter led the Wildcats to a 71-56 victory and their eighth Big Sky win.
