GAME NOTES: Wildcats face Lumberjacks Monday night

Weber State women's basketball will matchup against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks on Monday at Toyota Court in Flagstaff, AZ. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

This will be the 94th all-time meeting between the Wildcats and Lumberjacks with the serieis beginning in 1975. The series is led by Weber State 47-46 with the Lumberjacks leading in Flagstaff 24-18. The last game between the two was on January 4 where the Lumberjacks took the win 92-78.

Northern Arizona is under the direction of Loree Payne who joined the Lumberjacks in 2017. During her time at NAU Payne has compiled an overall record of 109-108 and 72-70 in Big Sky play. Payne has coached 11 different players to 17 All-Big Sky honors which includes three players to four first team awards. She was the 2022-23 Big Sky Coach of the year after claiming the 2022-23 regular season title. 

The Lumberjacks are 17-5, 8-1 with their most recent win against the Northern Colorado Bears, 68-52. Northern Arizona is led by Sophie Glancey who averages 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Glancey has been named Big Sky Player of the Week four times this season and was picked the Preseason All-Conference MVP. 

Weber State is under the direction of second year head coach Jenteal Jackson who was named the seventh head coach in WSU history. A Utah native and former in-state college player, she came to Weber State after spending the two seasons as head coach at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Prior to becoming head coach, she spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Westminster. She played college basketball at BYU and Westminster. 

The Wildcats are coming off of a 62-48 win over the Eastern Washington Eagles and secured their fifth win in Big Sky play. Kendra Parra led the team with 17 points going 3-for-5 from behind the arc and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Antoniette Emma-Nnopu finished the game with her eighth double-double of the season recording 10 points and 13 rebounds. 

Three Wildcats are nationally ranked in the top 100. Taylor Smith is ranked No. 6 in free throw percentage and No. 88 is blocks per game. Kendra Parra is ranked No. 7 in free throw percentage. Antoniette Emma-Nnopu is ranked No. 69 in rebounds, No. 27 in offensive rebounds, No. 32 in rebounds per game and No. 43 in double-doubles.  

Wildcats Kendra Parra, Kennedy Eskelson, Margarita Satini, Taylor Smith, and Amanda Edwards all return to the Weber State team this season. Weber State picked up transfers Rose Bubakar from BYU, Antoniette Emma-Nnopu from UNC Greensboro, Lanae Billy from Fort Lewis College, Japrix Stubbs from USU Eastern, and Arizana Peaua from Westminster. The team also welcomed five newcomers, Maya Davis, Fui Niumeitolu, Mata Peaua, Dakota Nap, and Vanna Quintana.

Following Monday's game, the Wildcats continue on the road for a matchup against Idaho State on Feb. 8.
