Wildcats fall at #52 Utah

Salt Lake City, UT — The Weber State Men's Tennis team was defeated on the road at #52 Utah on Wednesday night 4-1. The result dropped the Wildcats to 7-8 on the season.
After falling in the opening match of doubles play, 6-4, the 'Cats were able to respond posting two 6-4 victories of their own. Connor Kruger and Ken Minh took their match on Court #1 while Liam Day and Theo Mottier prevailed on Court #3. The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
In singles, the woes continued as for the third consecutive match the team was unable to capture a singles victory. Playing to clinch, the Utes swept all four singles matches where a result was determined resulting in the 4-1 result. Tristan Sarap pushed it to the limit in the number one position falling in the final frame 7-6 (9-7). Connor Kruger and Ken Minh went unfinished in their matches in the third set.
The Wildcats will be forced to respond quickly as they host the Utah State Aggies at 11:30 a.m. The Aggies come into the match following an 11-day break from competition. Before the hiatus, the Aggies defeated Big Sky Conference members Idaho State and Montana State. Utah State comes into Thursday at 8-6 on the season with a 1-0 mark in Mountain West Conference play. The Wildcats will look to end the three-game losing streak at three. The 'Cats have lost five of their last six dating back to the 7-0 loss to Temple on March 6th. The losing streak comes on the heels of a four-game winning streak that helped the team start with a 3-1 record in conference play.
