Griz top ‘Cats 4-3 on Senior Day

3/23/2025 4:05:00 PM | Men's Tennis

Ogden, UT — The Weber State Wildcats men's tennis team was defeated by the Montana Grizzlies 4-3 on a day in which the Wildcats honored three seniors.

The Wildcats clinched the doubles point thanks to wins in positions one and two. Connor Kruger and Ken Minh took their match on Court #1 6-4 leaving it up to William Zulch and Tristan Sarap to take the doubles points for the 'Cats. In a back-and-forth match on Court #2, Zulch and Sarap put the exclamation mark on doubles winning in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-5).

Ken Minh kept the momentum going in singles quickly winning his match on Court #4 6-1, 6-2. Theo Mottier kept the Wildcats hopes alive taking his must-win match on Court #6 by scores of 7-5, 6-2. The match came down to Senior Tristan Sarap in the number one position as the winner of the #1 match would get the team points needed to take the game. The two went back and forth as Sarap battled from down 5-4 to force a third-set tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, Sarap was defeated 7-1 to give Montana the win.

The Wildcats move to 3-2 in conference play as the losing skid has now reached five matches in a row. The 'Cats will head east to Omaha, Nebraska as they will play a doubleheader next Sunday, March 30th where they will take on North Dakota and Creighton. Both teams come into the match red-hot as North Dakota has won 10 consecutive matches while Creighton has won five straight. The Wildcats will seek an end to the skid before they resume conference play the following weekend on the road at Idaho.
