Azusa, Calif — The Weber State Men's Tennis team defeated Azusa Pacific 4-3 on Friday to push their record to 7-5.
"Close match," head coach Brad Ferreira said, "At 3-3 Tristan Sarap played a great third set for the win."
The 'Cats took an early lead in doubles play winning 6-1 in the number one position and 6-3 with the number three duo. These wins by the duos of Kruger/Minh and Quijano/Sarap gave the Wildcats what turned out to be a crucial doubles point going into singles play.
In singles, Liam Day and Ken Minh dominated giving the 'Cats two quick singles points. These victories put the match at 3-1 after Jordan Coutinho retired his match in the first set. The Cougars responded with two wins of their own making the match 3-3 with it coming down to the matchup on Court #1. It was there that Tristan Sarap, after losing the opening set 7-5, battled back to take set two in a tiebreaking set, 7-6 (7-5), and dominated in set three to give the Wildcats the 4-3 victory.
The Wildcats split their two games of the West Coast road trip after falling to Temple University on Thursday. The 'Cats, now at 7-5, will stay on the road as they will play back-to-back games in Arizona beginning on Saturday, March 15th against defending Big Sky Champions Northern Arizona University. The Lumberjacks are an even 6-6 on the season with a 1-0 mark in conference play.
