Wildcats split day one against the Bears

OGDEN - Wildcat softball began their final weekend of Big Sky play against the Northern Colorado Bears. Weber State earned a 7-2 victory in game one but fell in five innings 9-0 in game two.
GAME ONE
Weber State 7, Northern Colorado 2
Sadie Kirk got the Wildcats on the board first with an RBI single and her team-leading 35 RBI of the season.
Northern Colorado threatened in the fourth, but Cali McCraw struck out Jazzy Longo swinging to retire the side and leave two Bears stranded.
The Bears tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single. A fair line drive down the left field line then gave Northern Colorado a 2-1 lead and put runners on the corners; however, a force out at second base ended the inning.
Weber State's offense came alive in the top of the sixth. Tori Rey delivered a two-RBI double, her third double of the season to regain the lead, 3-2.
With the bases loaded later in the inning, designated hitter Riley Whalen launched a grand slam over the fence, extending the Wildcats lead to 7-2.
Northern Colorado was unable to mount a comeback in the final frame, and Weber State secured the 7-2 win.
Jayci Finch earned the victory, improving to 3-6 on the season.
Whalen finished 1-for-3 at the plate with four RBI from her grand slam. Despite the loss, the Bears out-hit the Wildcats 6-3.
GAME TWO
Weber State 0, Northern Colorado 9 (5 Inn.)
Northern Colorado quickly surpassed their run total from game one early into game two.Â
A double and triple by the Bears in the second inning earned Northern Colorado the 3-0 advantage. The Bears tacked on one more before closing out the inning.Â
Northern Colorado was dominant in the third inning, totaling five runs to lead by nine.Â
Weber State was unable to total any offense and the Bears took the game 9-0 in five innings.Â

Weber State will close out regular season Big Sky play against the Northern Colorado Bears on Saturday, April 26. First pitch is scheduled for noon. The Wildcats will also celebrate their five seniors following the game.Â
The Wildcats will matchup against the Utah Tech Trailblazers in a doubleheader on Saturday, May 3 before traveling to the Big Sky Tournament held May 6-9 in Greeley, Colorado.Â
