Wildcats drop series 2-1 to Bears

OGDEN - Weber State softball fell 3-0 this Saturday afternoon, dropping the weekend series 2-1 to the Northern Colorado Bears. The loss puts the Wildcats 8-7 in the Big Sky.Â
Northern Colorado took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning with a solo home run.
The Bears added two more runs in the third inning, capitalizing on a single and a home plate steal.Â
With Northern Colorado up 3-0, the Wildcats recorded their first hit of the day in the fourth inning with a single by Taegan Smith. A double by Sadie Kirk put Weber State in scoring position, but a fly out to center field ended the inning and stranded two runners.
Emma Bingham singled in the fifth and advanced to second and third on a Bears error, but the Wildcats were unable to bring her home.
In the sixth, the Wildcats made a pitching change, bringing in Jayci Finch, who retired Brooke Merrill.
Down to their final three outs in the seventh, Weber State couldn't rally, leaving one runner on base as the game ended in a 3-0 victory for Northern Colorado.
The Bears took the series 2-1. Taegan Smith led the Wildcats with two hits.
After the game, Weber State honored its seniors: Eva Richardson, Brooke Merrill, Gianna Memoli, Jayci Finch and Olivia Birkinshaw.
