Wildcats secure two against Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Oregon - Weber State softball swept a doubleheader against the Oregon State Beavers on Friday, earning victories of 5-3 and 3-1(8).Â
Game One: Weber State 5, Oregon State 3
Weber State secured a 5-3 victory over Oregon State, starting strong with an unearned run in the first inning. Jordan McMahon reached on an error and later scored on a groundout by Apollonia Maldonado, giving the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead after one inning.
Oregon State responded in the third inning with two runs. The Beavers Gordon scored on a single by Lewis, who later crossed home plate on a hit by Butler, putting Oregon State ahead 2-1 after three innings.
In the sixth inning, Weber State regained the lead with a three-run performance. Riley Whalen scored on a double by Maldonado. A pinch runner, Jordan Hart, later scored on a single by Sammy Gallegos, and Emma Bingham's sacrifice fly brought in another run, making it 4-2 in favor of the Wildcats after six innings.
Weber State added an insurance run in the seventh inning when Victoria Rey scored on a sacrifice fly by Maldonado, extending the lead to 5-2. Oregon State managed one run in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Gordon, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Kendall Freidinger pitched a complete game for Weber State, throwing seven innings with 115 pitches, including 74 strikes. Freidinger allowed seven hits and three earned runs while walking two batters and striking out one.Â
Maldonado drove in three runs, including a double, and McMahon recorded two hits and successfully stole two bases. Gallegos contributed with a pinch-hit single, driving in one run.
Game Two: Weber State 3, Oregon State 1 (8 Inn.)
To begin the second game, McMahon reached on an error in the first inning, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Grundy. Kirk then doubled to left field, allowing McMahon to score unearned. Maldonado followed with a single, but the inning ended with a double play, leaving the score 1-0 in favor of the Wildcats after one inning.
Oregon State tied the game in the fifth inning. After a single and a walk, Butler singled to left field, driving in a run. The inning concluded with the score level at 1-1.
In the eighth inning, the Wildcats capitalized on two errors by Oregon State. Jordan Hart, placed as a runner on second, advanced to third on a fielder's choice by Victoria Rey. Gallegos then reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Hart and advancing Rey and Gallegos on a fielding error. Grundy singled through the left side, driving in Gallegos and extending the lead. The inning ended with the Wildcats leading 3-1, and they later secured the victory.Â
Raina Navarro pitched 4.1 innings, allowing four hits and one earned run while issuing two walks. She faced 19 batters and threw 62 pitches. RJ Parra entered in relief, delivering 3.2 scoreless innings, conceding three hits and one walk, and striking out two batters. Parra was able to navigate through 15 batters on 45 pitches, keeping the Beavers off the scoreboard during her time in the circle.
