Wildcats take series against Beavers with 2-1 record

CORVALLIS, Oregon - Weber State softball finished their weekend series against the Oregon State Beavers with a 2-1 record, despite a 9-3 loss this afternoon.
The Wildcats faced the Beavers with an initial surge in the first inning when Jordan McMahon singled in the infield, and after Sadie Kirk's double, McMahon scored on a passed ball. Apollonia Maldonado's walk set up Jordan Hart, who delivered an RBI single, driving in Kirk, concluding the inning with the Wildcats leading, 2–0.
Oregon State responded in the bottom of the first with a three-run homer by Thompson, contributing to a five-run inning. By the end of the first inning, the score was 5–2 in favor of Oregon State.
In the fourth inning, Weber State added a run when Hart reached base, and after a series of plays, McMahon hit an RBI single, bringing Hart home. Oregon State extended its lead in the bottom half with solo home runs from Butler and Thompson. The inning ended with Oregon State leading 8-3.
The Beavers added another run in the fifth inning with an RBI double by Lewis. The score at the end of five innings was 9-3 for Oregon State.
Weber State did not score in the remaining innings, and Oregon State secured the game 9-3.Â
Joslynn Veltien pitched five innings, allowing nine hits and four runs, with three earned runs, while striking out one batter and not issuing any walks. Veltien's performance included 71 pitches with 46 strikes, and she conceded two home runs and one double. Jade Curiel contributed 0.2 of an inning, conceding three hits and two earned runs alongside a walk in her relief appearance. Cali McCraw started the game, lasting only 0.1 of an inning while giving up two hits, including a home run, and allowing three earned runs.
Hart recorded three hits and one RBI in the game. Emma Bingham contributed with two hits in her three plate appearances. Kirk added a double and scored a run, finishing with one hit in four at-bats. McMahon also tallied three hits and drove in one run, matching Hart's performance.
