Wildcats close out regular season play with a sweep over Trailblazers

Wildcat softball went 8-2 this season against in-state rivals Utah State, Utah, Utah Valley and Utah Tech.

OGDEN - Wildcat softball swept the Utah Tech Trailblazers this Saturday afternoon taking game one 9-4 and then game two 8-0 in six innings. 

GAME ONE
Weber State 9, Utah Tech 4


Weber State came out strong as Emma Bingham launched a home run in the bottom of the first to get the Wildcats on the board. Soon after, Abby Grundy hit a double and later scored on a Sienna Solis RBI single to give Weber State an early 2-0 lead.

In the top of the second, Utah Tech loaded the bases with a chance to respond, but a diving catch by Jordan McMahon ended the inning.

Mariyah Delgado extended the Wildcats lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second, scoring on a Taegan Smith single.

A pitching change came in the third, with Joslynn Veltien taking over for Raina Navarro. 

Utah Tech then capitalized on two bases-loaded walks to close the gap to 3-2.

Weber State added another run in the third when Solis scored on a sacrifice fly to right field, making it 4-2. The Trailblazers responded in the top of the fourth, tying the game at 4-4.

The Wildcats answered in the bottom half of the inning, putting up three runs to reclaim control at 7-4. They added another in the fifth with a Taegan Smith RBI single and held Utah Tech scoreless the rest of the way, with a 9-4 win.

Weber State totaled 14 hits in the game, with Taegan Smith and Solis each collecting three. Veltien earned the win, improving her record to 6-6 on the season.

GAME TWO
Weber State 8, Utah Tech 0 (6 Inn.)


The Wildcats struck first in game two of the doubleheader, with Solis delivering an RBI single, her fourth hit and second RBI of the day.

In the third inning, Bingham added to the lead with an RBI single, making it 2-0.

Olivia Birkinshaw extended the lead to three in the fourth, doubling to left field, advancing to third on another single by Solis, and scoring on an unearned run.

Weber State broke the game open in the sixth, with six more runs to shut down the Trailblazers 8-0 in six innings and complete the doubleheader sweep.
