OGDEN – The Weber State men's golf team added a pair of golfers recently to complete the 2025 recruiting class as Jesus Castaneda and Sean Lampropoulos join the roster for the upcoming fall season.
Castaneda, from Layton, Utah and Northridge High School is a sophomore transfer who competed at Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Wash. Last year at Columbia Basin, Jesus played in all eight tournaments for the Hawks and posted a stroke average of 73.88. He finished in the top-10 in seven tournaments, five of which were top-5 finishes, and he was named the 2025 Baden Northwest Athletic Conference Golfer of the Year. Jesus shot rounds of 70 and 71 for a 3-under par 141 to claim individual medalist honors at the Walla Walla Invitational for his lone tournament win of the year. He finished as runner-up at the Columbia Basin League Match with rounds of 72-73 for a 1-over par 145, and added a third place at the Centralia College League Match with a total of 145, which was highlighted by an opening round 2-under par 69. He shot a final round 71 at the Northwest Athletic Conference Championships to finish in a tie for sixth place.
Lampropoulos is from Salt Lake City and played his high school golf for East High School, where he lettered four times. He was a 5A First Team All-State selection in 2022, 2023 and 2024 and recorded 10 career individual medalist titles in region play. Sean led East to three-straight top-5 state high school championship finishes, including back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2023 and 2024. He finished in third place on the individual leaderboard at the state championships each of his final two years as he shot 67-71 for a 6-under par 138 at Fox Hollow GC in 2023 and 69-67 for an 8-under par 136 at Glen Eagle GC in 2024. In 2022, he tied for seventh place at the state tourney with rounds of 70-73 for a 1-under par 143 at Oquirrh Hills GC. Sean became the youngest winner of the Salt Lake City Amateur when he shot 72-66-138 in 2023 and his junior golf tournament titles include the 2022 Utah Jr. Golf Association's Tin Cup, the 2023 Salt Lake City PGA Jr. Major, the 2024 Utah Jr. PGA Utah County Major and the 2024 Utah Jr. PGA Major. He also added a fifth place finish at the FCG National Championship.
The pair join incoming freshman Ryan Takeshita of Auburn, Wash. and Sumner High School, who signed with the Wildcats back in November of 2024.
"We are really excited about all three new members of our team," said WSU head coach Scott Erling. "They bring a lot of talent and competetiveness to our squad. We are looking forward to watching them grow and contribute to our program."
