Arizona wins battle of Wildcats after lightning delay

Arizona knocked off Weber State 48-3.

TUCSON - The first ever meeting between Weber State and Arizona had to wait a little longer. The start of the game was delayed by more than two hours due to lightning in the area. After the game started in was all the Arizona Wildcats as they rolled to a 48-3 win over the Weber State Wildcats late Saturday night at Arizona Stadium in the second game of the year. 

The game was scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. Arizona time but didn't start until 9:10 p.m. due to lightning delays. 

Right after kickoff, Arizona started with a dominating first quarter as they built a 24-0 lead and totaled 235 yards of offense in the quarter. They led 34-0 at halftime. 

Weber State's Sloan Calder knocked down a 33-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. 

Arizona posted 556 yards of total offense, compared to 184 for Weber State. Arizona had 406 yards passing and five touchdowns and 150 yards rushing, while Weber State had 116 yards on the ground and 68 yards passing. Arizona had 31 first downs. 

Jackson Gilkey threw for 68 yards and rushed for 40 yards. Davion Godley added 37 rushing yards and Jayleen Record had four catches for 17 yards. 

In his first game with the Wildcats, Sione Hala finished with seven tackles, as did BJ Carey. Keahnist Thompson had six tackles with 1.5 sacks. Aizik Mahuka also recorded one sack and had two tackles for loss. 

After two-straight FBS road games, Weber State concludes its three-game road trip to start the season next Saturday at McNeese in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
