Second half comeback falls short at Montana State

Bobcats beat the Wildcats 91-88. Tijan Saine led WSU with 24 points.
BOZEMAN, Mont. - Weber State rallied from a second half deficit, but couldn't seal the win as Montana State beat the Wildcats 91-88 on Saturday night at Worthington Arena.Â
Montana State led by as many as 14 points and held an 11-point lead at 78-67 with 6:24 to play when the Wildcats came charging back. Weber State went on a 15-2 run over the next four minutes and took an 82-80 lead with 2:24 to play.Â
Weber State went ahead 84-83 with 56 seconds left after a Tijan Saine layup, but the Bobcats made six free throws in the final 18 seconds to seal the win. Â
Weber State started the game 7 of 9 from 3-point range and shot 55 percent from the field in the first half, but never held a lead larger than three points. MSU led 45-42 at halftime.Â
MSU led by one point with 12:44 to play when the Bobcats went on a 17-5 run and led 71-58 with 8:54 to play, before WSU started its comeback.Â
Both teams shot 51 percent from the field. The Bobcats made 12 3-pointers, and the Wildcats made 11. MSU won the rebounding battle 30-22.
Tijan Saine Jr. led the way with 24 points and knocked down four 3-pointers. He has reached 20 or more points in five of WSU's eight Big Sky games. He also had four assists and two rebounds and was 6 of 6 from the free throw line.Â
Viljami Vartiainen added 15 points and knocked down four 3-pointers, all coming in the first half.Â
Trevor Hennig had one of his best performances of the season with 15 points off the bench. He was 6 of 9 from the field.Â
Nigel Burris added nine points and Malek Gomma had eight points.Â
Weber State now has a week off until its next game, when the 'Cats host Idaho State on Saturday, January 31, at 1 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.Â
